There is a place for you at Mattierin.

For more than 30 years, Mattierin has been part of Edmonton’s Irish dance community, helping dancers take their first steps, grow in confidence, perform for their community and achieve their goals.

From tiny tots taking their first class to dancers reaching the highest levels of competition, Mattierin dancers have gone on to become World Champions, North American Champions, and professional performers with Riverdance.

Whether you’re discovering Irish dance for the first time or continuing a passion you’ve loved for years, Mattierin is here to help you take the next step.

At Mattierin, dancers grow through more than individual training. Solo work, team dancing, performances and mentorship all play a part in helping dancers build confidence, friendships, experience and a strong sense of belonging.

Solos

Our solo curriculum starts with fun, music and movement, helping younger dancers build confidence, coordination, rhythm and strong foundations. As dancers progress, we introduce more focused technique, turnout, strength, flexibility, barre work and drills, while also teaching resilience, discipline and how to work toward goals in a healthy way. Dancers also have opportunities to train with live traditional music in the studio, with Mattierin teachers Merv and Jessica both performing as feis musicians on accordion and piano.

Teams

Team dancing is a big part of the Mattierin experience. Dancers learn to work toward shared goals, depend on one another and understand that their effort matters to the people around them. As dancers gain experience, they are encouraged to support newer competitors and lead by example.

Whether it’s a personal breakthrough, a solo achievement, a team win or a great performance, we celebrate every success together. We want our dancers to be proud of their own progress, cheer just as loudly for the people beside them, and understand that they are part of something bigger: one Mattierin team.

Performances

Performing gives dancers the chance to take what they learn in class and share it beyond the studio. Mattierin dancers have performed everywhere from seniors’ homes and Edmonton’s Heritage Festival to major events, including the Queen’s Royal Visit and productions at the Jubilee Auditorium with Shumka.

Performance opportunities can bring together dancers of different ages and levels, including our Bigs & Littles number, where older and younger dancers share the stage together. These experiences build confidence, stage presence and a strong connection to the wider community.
